Ilam Access Visits Campus

Ilam Access Team (the Access students and the teachers along with the focal person) visited a historical academic site, Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus, Ilam about a couple of miles away from the Access center as part of project work with the main objective of collecting glorious historical facts and information about the campus. Since its establishment in 2017 BS, the campus has undergone various administrative changes and challenges. The campus has been a great source and inspiration for various kinds of personalities, students, teachers, professors, politicians and administrators who luckily happened to receive their desired education and got enlightened for their goals dreamt in the lives. The Access students including the teachers and the focal person after the week day’s class at the center marched to the campus at around 11 on Saturday, 7 December 2019 through the market place and reached the site after about half an hour. After getting to the defined location, the MRM Ilam Campus, the participants were briefed about further activities at the site. The students were divided into groups and pairs during the collection of the details at the site. The team inquired with the students and staff members present on the campus about various information and infrastructures of the campus. The students were involved in the research with active participation and were concerned about finding the facts based on the questionnaire prepared by the focal person Mr. Rajendra Baral himself.

 

Ilam Access Visits Bridhashram

Ilam Access visited an old age home called Shree Mai Bhagawati Old  Age Home situated nearby Mai river down Ilam Bazaar on July 27, 2019. The old age home has been providing shelter and other facilities to thirteen old aged people from different parts of Ilam at the moment. Along with Ilam Access students and teachers, the program was attended and observed by Ilam Access focal person Mr. Rajendra Baral, NELTA Ilam treasurer Mr. Punny Bhattarai, two fficials from Mahila Jagaran Ilam and the chairman of the school management committee at Aadarsha Higher Secondary School Ilam, Mr. Komal Niroula. Access students were divided into groups to perform various tasks. Some helped out in kitchen to prepare lunch, some cleaned the premises, some did weeding and cleaning at the nearby children’s park being managed by Women Empowerment Organization Ilam (Mahila Jagaran Sang Ilam), the same organization that founded the old age home and has been bearing all its responsibilities. The Access students and teachers cooked and served a special food, dry pudding (Dhakkane) along with pickle and curry items to the old aged people and to all present at the old age home. After cleaning the garden, home premises and serving a delicious lunch, Access students gathered at the garden with the elderly people, they listened to their bitter sweet stories and also entertained all with a couple of songs and dance.

Ilam Access Marks American Independence Day

Independence Day of the United States of America was celebrated at Ilam Access center on June 29, 2019, Saturday amidst the presence of all the Ilam NELTA executive members, focal person, instructors, students and the program coordinator of American Corner of Ilam Mr. Hem Poudel. The Access hall was decorated with the efforts of both the teachers and students as well as credit goes for the decoration to Mr. Hem Poudel, the program coordinator of American Corner Ilam. The event was chaired by the Ilam Access focal person Mr. Rajendra Baral. The formal program began at 10:00 o’clock in the morning with the address by the focal person Mr. Rajendra Baral to all present at the event that lasted for about three and half hours. He spread light on the history of American Independence Day and shared how Independence Day is celebrated all across America with joy and merrymaking. The celebration cake especially for the occasion was cut by one of the Access students and some sweets were also enjoyed by all present on the occasion. A movie related to the American independence was shown in the hall that was made available by American Corner Ilam. The talent show by the Access students was also a part of the celebration. The program was full of infotainment.

Ilam Access Celebrated Buddha Jayanti

Ilam Access celebrated Buddha Jayanti, a major festival observed in Nepal by Buddhists as well as Hindus and other followers of Gautam Buddha on Saturday, May 18, 2019. At the Ilam Access Center, students were at first briefed about Buddha Jayanti through videos and short talks; students gathered information about the life of Siddhartha Gautam and the teachings of Buddha that focus on spreading love and peace all over the world. After that, Access students and teachers marched with placards toward a local monastery Danda Gumba situated in Ilam Municipality 7. The placards, made by students, had some inspiring thoughts such as ‘Let’s follow the path of non-violence’, ‘Unity in Diversity’, ‘Buddha was born in Nepal’ etc. The Access team after reaching the venue observed the rituals being performed by monks (Lamas) at the Gumba. The worshipers and the Buddhists were seen thronged around the place as they queued to enter the shrine. The students were instructed to collect some relevant information about Gumba and the festival by talking to the monks and worshipers. After collecting information and exploring the Gumba, students had their snack and left for their homes.

US Ambassador to Nepal Randy W. Berry Visits Ilam Access

The US Ambassador to Nepal Randy W. Berry paid a visit to Ilam Access on April 24, 2019. The Ambassador was accompanied by RELO Program Specialist Bishwa Raj Gautam and other officials from US Embassy, Kathmandu, Nepal. The visitors were warmly welcomed by excited students. Students interacted eagerly with the ambassador and other officials on ‘Farmers’ Market’ set up at the Access Center displaying various local products in Ilam such as Ilam tea, round chili called  Akbare Khursani, Bambaisan (a lollipop sweet), locally produced vegetables like ginger, garlic, onions, carrot and fruits like apples, grapes, fresh oranges grown in etc. and handcrafts such as flowers made using papers, clothes, plastics and thread, beautiful marigold garlands; the guests and teachers visited the various stalls as customers and students acted as shopkeepers/sellers, there was a lively interaction between buyers and sellers, bargaining and making purchases. After nearly half an hour of such interaction, Ambassador Berry addressed the students and teachers; in his address, he expressed his happiness in seeing Access students learning English language and leadership skills through English Access Microscholarship Program and encouraged students to make best use of the resources and opportunities in Access program. At the end of the visit, all gathered for a memorable click with Ambassador Berry and all US Embassy Officials.

Ilam Access in Community Service

The Access students along with their teachers and NELTA Ilam executives participated in a cleanliness program organized by Ilam Access Center on Saturday, January 12, 2019. Access students came up with slogans for their placards, they marched from Access center to the program location Singha Bahini Temple, Ilam 7 interacting with locals about the program. On reaching the temple, students were provided with masks, gloves, brooms, dust pans and bins; they started cleaning the campus premises and the worshipping area. The people visiting the temple were surprised to see Access students cleaning the temple premises, they also spoke positively about the student’s work towards community service.

Ilam Access Inauguration

On November 19, 2018 inauguration ceremony of English Access Microscholarship Program, Ilam as held at Hotel Green View, Ilam. The program was attended by 40 Access students and their parents, 4 Access teachers, NELTA Ilam executives and members and guests. Mayor of Ilam Municipality Mahesh Basnet was the chief guest of the program, Past President NELTA and Access Focal Person Hemanta Raj Dahal and RELO Program Specialist Bishwa Raj Gautam were the special guests. A representative from District Education Coordination Unit, Ilam, and Headmasters of feeder schools, NELTA Ilam Executives, Access Focal person of Jhapa and Ilam and journalists were also present on the occasion. The inauguration program was hosted by Access Coordinator Kunjarmani Gautam.   After some encouraging remarks from the main guests and chief guest, the Access students and teachers were awarded their Access commencement certificates, signed by the US Ambassador to Nepal Randy W. Berry.
