Dhading Access Graduation

Dhading Access students were awarded their Access graduation certificate from Public Affairs Officer, US Embassy, Kathmandu Mr. Paul Thomas at the Access graduation ceremony amidst an august gathering of students, parents, teachers and NELTA executive body and members at Galaxy Public School, Gyaneswor, Kathmandu on August 7, 2018. Prior to the formal graduation ceremony, students presented their learnings, achievements and leadership impacts; guests observed the student’s demonstration with keen interest. The chief guest of the graduation ceremony was PAO Paul Thomas, the program was graced with the presence of NELTA President Motikala Subba Dewan and Regional English Language Officer Dennis Yang. Speaking at the event, PAO Paul Thomas encouraged the students to keep advancing their skills and knowledge and also to help others around them. Similarly, NELTA President Motikala Subba Dewan expressed her happiness in observing student’s achievements and thanked everyone for successful completions of Access Program at Dhading.

Field Trip and Community Service

On 23 June 2018, Access Center Dhading, conducted community service and field trip to one of the famous local temples Muktinath. As per the plan, Access students and Access Instructors gathered at Access Center at 6 am. All of the students and Instructors got into bus and started their journey towards Muktinath temple which is 10 km far from Access Center Dhading. After the arrival at Muktinath temple premise, the Access Instructor Dhruba Khatiwada gave some instructions to all of the students. According to the instruction, all of the students observed and collected some information about Muktinath temple and also entered to the cave. They spent half an hour to note down the information and got ready to clean the temple premise. Some of the students collected plastics and other garbage, some of them pulled out the unnecessary weeds and some of the students collected them at one place. They did this for 1 hour and all of them washed hands and got together on the ground. They took out the food that they have brought from their home, and shared the food with each other and enjoyed eating. After eating food, they headed towards the old people’s home (Bridha Ashram) as instructed by Access Instructors. They got an opportunity to interact with the old people. Students asked some questions to the old people regarding their personal feelings and experience. Some of the old people shared their stories with tears to students Finally, Access students along with Access instructors distributed some fruits to old people and all returned home.

  

Dhading Access Reader’s Club Organizes Speech Contest

On 23 August 2017, Dhading Access Readers’ Club organized Speech Contest on ‘English for Students in Nepalese Context’ at Adarsha Secondary School, Gajuri among eleven participants from feeder schools and other nearby schools. The program was held under the chairmanship of Arpana Bisunke, an Access student with the presence of Ramprasad Aryal, Assistant Headmaster of Adarsha Secondary School as chief guest, Rudra Danai, NELTA Dhading Chair and Access Dhading focal person as special guest, and Access instructors, teachers from participating school, teachers of Adarsha Secondary School and ETA volunteer Lucia Zerner as guests of the program. The program was anchored by two Access students Saroj Shakya and Babita Pariyar. Access instructors, Usha Kiran Rana, Shanti Shah and ETA volunteer, Lucia Zerner were the judges of the program. In the contest, Pushpa Mainali of Bageshwori Secondary School, Sandip Pathak of Adarsha Secondary School, Gaurav Garnanja of Styawati Secondary School and Dipa Nepal of Mahakali Secondary School got first, second, third and consolation position, respectively. The prizes to the winner were given by chief guest and special guest. The chief guest, Ramprasad Aryal expressed his view that Access has played great role to improve English and leadership among the students and thanked NELTA for organizing the program at his school. Some Nepali folk songs with dances were performed by Access students. Finally the program was wrapped up when Arpana Bisunke, Chair of the program thanked all the guests, school administration, teachers and students of Adarsha Secondary School, and invitees.

Rally and Street Drama for Public Awareness

On March 8, 2018, on the occasion of 108th International Women’s Day, a rally was organized and street drama was performed as part of community service at Gajuri Bazaar in the presence of thirty -seven students, four Access teachers and focal person, Rudra Prasad Danai. Before the program, the Access instructors gave instructions on the importance of the day, need of women empowerment and what they were going to do. After the instruction, all of the students and teachers hold banner, placards and started rally for awareness program. The rally marched around the bazaar and gathered at traffic post. The 25 minutes street drama on the women exploitation in our society was performed. There were about 100 people who fully watched the drama and enjoyed the performance. Finally Usha Kiran Rana instructor, Access Dhading, wrapped up the program with brief remarks and program highlights. She also extended the vote of thanks to the audience.

Dhading Access tends Access Garden

On July 8, 2017, Community Service was held conducting gardening program in the premises of Dhading Access Center in the presence of thirty eight students, four Access teachers and focal person, Rudra Prasad Danai. Before the gardening program, the Access instructors gave instructions what they were going to do. After the instruction, all of the students and teachers went to the ground for plantation program. At first, the students cleaned the ground and they took out the weeds from the previously made garden of Access Center. Some of the students started to dig the ground. After digging, they decorated the garden by making boundary using the bricks and stones. They also wrote ‘DHADING ACCESS’ using the pebbles in the garden. Then students planted the flowers which they had brought from their homes. Finally, the program was wrapped up with instructors giving responsibility to maintain the garden to the students.

Quiz Contest at Dhading Access

On January 21, 2017, a Quiz Contest was conducted among the Access students at Dhading Access Center. Students were informed about the program the previous week. The program was started in the presence of both groups along with the focal person and four Access teachers. The students were divided into five groups of four members in each group. The groups were formed by lucky draw. For Quiz Contest, 60 questions were made altogether. Those all questions were related to Nepali and American History, Culture, Education, Democracy, Election and other popular culture, events and the contents that students had learnt in their Access Class. After forming groups, the program was started at 11:00 am. First of all, the students were informed about the rules and regulations of Quiz Contest. Students participated enthusiastically. The first, second and third position holders were awarded by the Dhading focal person in the end.

Martin Luther King’s  Day Celebration

On January 16, 2017 , Martin Luther King’s Day was celebrated at Dhading Access Center with the presence of all four teachers and forty students. On the occasion of the day, some video clips related to his biography were played, and information about American history and biography of Martin Luther King, Jr. was displayed through power point. While presenting the videos and power point slides, students were asked questions for comprehension, such as ‘When and where was Martin Luther King born? What contribution did he do in American history? When did American people start to celebrate the third Monday of January as federal holiday? What did he do to end racial segregation? When did he win the Noble Peace Prize? Then the video of ‘I Have a Dream’ was played. After the presentation, the students were divided into six groups. Each group was given a sheet of paper on which the students wrote main events and dates related to Martin Luther King and his campaign. After completing their task, they presented to the whole class. After their presentation, handouts were given to every student.

New Year 2017 Celebration at Dhading Access

New Year 2017 was celebrated at Dhading Access center on January 1, 2017 with various fun filled activities. On the occasion, as per the plan, ‘Postcard Writing and Drawing’ was conducted. First of all, all four Access instructors wished ‘Happy New Year 2017’ to all the Access students of both groups. Then they were distributed the drawing paper of post card size to prepare post card with different best wishes as well as attractive drawings. They were asked to give more focus on language than art. Before preparing post cards, some samples were displayed through power point. They were given 45 minutes to prepare post cards. Each of them prepared beautiful post cards with various wishes with artistic hand-writing and drawings. When they had completed their task, they were asked to paste their creations on the wall in different five places. Each group consisted of a sheet of news print paper, on which the students wrote their comments. All the students were asked to visit all five stations and write their comments over the paper. Students also shared their best wishes to each other. Finally Instructor, Miss Usha Kiran Rana sang ‘Happy New Year’ song and inspired the students to sing along. At last all wished ‘Happy New Year 2017’ to each other through the song.

Access Students in Cleaning Campaign

On December 24, 2016, Community Service was held conducting sanitation campaign around Gajuri Bazzar in the presence of all forty students, four Access teachers and focal person, Rudra Danai. Before the students started the campaign, the Access instructors gave instruction about what they were going to do. They were asked to prepare banner, posters and placards. Gloves and masks were distributed to the students who were going to collect solid waste and carry dustbins. First they were taken to the temple of Gajuri Bazaar and divided in two equal groups. Students of one group with two teachers went to the left lane and the rest went to the right lane. Students collected solid waste especially paper, plastic bags, bottles and plastic products. The waste was kept in the dustbins and disposed safely. Students displayed placards to convey the message to keep the community neat and clean. When they reached check point of traffic police, they came back to Access Center. Then the activities that were done during sanitation campaign were reviewed.

Dhading Access Center Inauguration

The students of Dhading Access center sixth cohort received commencement certificate of English Access Microscholarship Program in an inaugural ceremony organized at the hall of Highway Chulo Restaurant, Dhading on November 19, 2016. The Chief Guest of the program was RELO, US Embassy, Mr. Russell Barczyk. RELO Program Specialist Mr. Bishwa Raj Gautam, NELTA Vice President, Mr. Ishwori Bahadur Adhikari, the head teachers from the feeder schools, all Access students and their parents were present on the occasion. In the program, NELTA Dhading Chair and the Dhading Access Focal Person, Mr. Rudra Prasad Danai delivered his welcome speech expressing his gratitude to US Embassy and NELTA Centre for providing such opportunity of educational and career promotion for the underprivileged children of Dhading. The Access Teachers, Ms. Shanti Shah and Ms. Usha Kiran Rana welcomed the guests by offering garlands and bouquets. Chief Guest Mr. Russell Barczyk formally inaugurated the program by lighting the ceremonial Panas. In his remarks, Mr. Barczyk encouraged Access students to take maximum benefit of the resources of the Access program and wished for their better future. Furthermore, he wished the Access Teachers for their better career and congratulated the students who got the opportunity to be in Access. Then, the Chief Guest handed over the certificates of commencement to the Access Students and Teachers. The Vice President of NELTA, Mr. Ishwori Bahadur Adhikari, highlighted the responsibilities of the teachers, parents and students in making this program successful. At the end of the program, NELTA Dhading Chair Mr. Rudra Prasad Danai, handed over the Token of Love to the Chief Guest, Mr. Russell Barczyk, and other guests. The program was conducted by Access Assistant coordinator, Ms. Prathana Basukala.
