Pokhara Access Graduation

Graduation Ceremony of Pokhara Access was held on August 14, 2019, in the auditorium hall of Talbarahi Secondary School, Baidam. The Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City Man Bahadur GC, Regional English Language Program Specialist Mr. Bishwa Raj Gautam, NELTA President Motikala Subba, Access Co-coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam, Prof. Dr. Vishnu Singh Rai, NELTA Gandaki Province President Dr. Nabaraj Neupane , NELTA Kaski Chair Meenu Shrestha Kunwar, focal person of Pokhara Access Mukesh Kumar Adhikari, executive members of NELTA Pokhara, representatives from Barahi School, Talbarai School, Shree Krishna School, all the parents and Access Instructors Upendra Prasad Poudel, Sharmila Poudel Pokhrel, Prakash Chandra Giri, Manju Thapa were present in the program.

NELTA Kaski chair welcomed all the distinguished guests. Then, Chief Guest Mr. Man Bahadur GC inaugurated the program signing on the Access banner. NELTA President Motikala Subba Dewan welcomed all by delivering a short speech.  All the Access students and teachers received the achievement certificates through the hand of the Chief Guest Mr. Man Bahadur GC. Mr. Upendra Poudel gave a short remark on behalf of Access Teachers and two students Sushmita Ghalan and Sujit Kumar Kushwaha delivered short remarks of two years experiences respectively. Mr. Salikram Subedi put some remarks representing the parents. Then, Chief Guest put some remarks and finally NELTA Pokhara Chair Meenu Kunwar Shrestha delivered vote of thanks. At last group photos were taken followed by light refreshments. The program was conducted by Access students Sunil Neupane and Deepa Dahal.

Pokhara Access Visits PN Campus

Pokhara Access students visited Prithivi Narayan Campus (PN Campus) on July 27, 2019. All the Access teachers and students, Access Focal person Mr. Mukesh Adhikari, Vice-Chair of NELTA Kaski Mr. Ajay Thapa, NELTA Gandaki Province President Dr. Nabaraj Neupane also joined the university visit program. PN Campus is located at Pokhara Metropolitan City, Kaski, it is one of the reputed and oldest campus in Nepal.

The students observed Western Regional Library, Butterfly Museum, faculty buildings, administrative building, classrooms, program halls and canteen of the campus. Dr, Nabaraj Neupane, Reader of PN Campus facilitated and guided the students with some highlights of campus activities and history. The students also put some questions on regular classes, faculties, no. of students, ECA programs and so on.

Pokhara Access Visit Religious Places with Sanitation Support

Pokhara Access teachers, students along with Pokhara Access focal person and NELTA representatives of NELTA Kaski organized a Religious Place Visit and distributed some dustbins on July 13, 2019. The teachers discussed with the students about the possible community service. The students brought different ideas, among them visiting religious places was the one, and everyone agreed on it, teachers as well. Finally, the final community service organized by Access Pokhara became really fruitful and meaningful in terms of equipping new ideas from the respective gurus and distributing some materials. The students could get different religious dimension shared by the priests of these places.

Pokhara Access Marks Black History Month

Pokhara Access marked Black History Month on February 23, 2019 at Access Center. All Pokhara Access students and teachers along with a team from American Corner, Pokhara were present on the occasion. Access instructor Upendra Paudel and American Corner program coordinator Amar Kunwar highlighted about the importance of Black History Month by showing photos and video that showed achievements of famous black American people; they related those achievements with Nepali context encouraging students to explore more on the issue and to be always respectful towards diverse caste, culture, customs and values.

Pokhara Access in Community Service

Students and teachers from Pokhara Access visited ‘Pokhara Bridhashram’, a home for elderly on  January 19, 2019 and distributed some food materials to the elderly people residing there as part of their community service. President of NELTA Gandaki Province Mr. Nabaraj Neupane and Pokhara Access focal person Mr. Mukesh Kumar Adhikari also participated and oriented students on the importance of community service. Access students interacted with the elderly people, they also entertained them with their songs, dances and jokes. An elderly woman, Rita Kumari Rana said, “The interactive program with children has freshened our mind”. The elderly people expressed their gratitude and blessed students for their generosity and care.

ELF Ani Hawkinson Visits Pokhara Access

English Language Fellow Dr. Ani Hawkinson visited Pokhara Access from December 28, 2018 to January 3, 2019 and conducted different activities for the students and Access teachers. She conducted 6 hours of classroom activities for both the groups and also conducted 5 hours of refresher workshop for teachers. During the classroom activities, she focused on language games, transformation and error correction activities. For the teachers, the workshop was focused on classroom planning, lesson planning and language learning through games. Access Teachers Upendra Prasad Poudel, Sharmila Poudel, Manju Thapa and Prakash Chandra Giri participated in the teacher’s workshop and students from both the groups of Pokhara Access enjoyed the session from native speaker.

 

Pokhara Access on a Picnic

Pokhara Access organized picnic program for the refreshment of Access students in presence of NELTA Gandaki President Nawaraj Neupane, Pokhara Access focal person Mukesh Kumar Adhikari, Access teachers and NELTA Kaski executives at Dovilla, Pokhara. The program was full of games, fun and entertainment.

Kaski Access in Community Service

Pokhara Access visited Rainbow Children’s Home-Nepal on July 14, 2018. All Access students, instructors and Pokhara Access focal Mr. Mukesh Adhikari participated in the program. At first, all gathered at the Access center, carried the stationery and sports materials to be donated to the children’s home. At the children’s home, Access family was warmly welcomed by the children and the caretakers. Access students interacted with the children, sharing their family backgrounds and their goals in life, they entertained each other with songs and dance. Finally, the materials were handed over.

Parent’s Meeting

Pokhara Access Centre conducted second parents meeting on April 21, 2018 at Talbarahi Secondary School in the special presence of NELTA Kaski Chair Ms. Meenu Kunwar Shrestha. The interaction/ meeting focused on reviewing the six months progress and information about Access Intensive Leadership Camp 2018. Access instructors Prakash Chandra Giri, Manju Thapa, Upendra Prasad Poudel and Sarmila Poudel Pokharel facilitated the program.

While conducting parents meeting one of the parents (Avaya Jaiswal’s mother) said,” We are very lucky because my son got opportunity to be an Access student, he is learning so many new things here.” Similarly Chandra Rai’s mother said, “I can see positive changes in my daughter’s behavior and study. I want to thank Access family for this change.”

International Women’s Day at Kaski Access

Pokhara Access Centre celebrated the 108th International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018. NELTA branch chair Meenu Shrestha Kunwar, focal person Mukesh Kumar Adhikari, Access instructors Prakash Chandra Giri, Manju Thapa, Upendra Poudel and Sharmila Poudel were present on the program. The guests Apar Poudel from US embassy and Editor-in-Chief of Republica English Daily Subhash Ghimire facilitated the program very effectively and with joy. The students were facilitated by the respective teachers about the history, meaning and theme of the International Women’s Day. The students took part actively in the group work. The students shared about the biography of famous women like Mother Teresa, Anuradha Koirala, and Florence Nightingale etc. The students prepared posters on powerful women and described it in the classroom.  The program was very interactive and motivating to the students. Two guests Apar and Subash shared the experiences about their career and life. The students put some questions about the way of setting goals and career development.

After the celebration of International women’s Day, one of the Access students Sujit Kumar Kushwaha quoted, “We should not wait for someone to give us the opportunity, but we prepare ourselves and create opportunities.” Similarly Sunil Neupane said, “I have deep respect towards women.”

Holi Celebration in Access

Access Center Pokhara celebrated Holi Festival on February 24, 2018.  This was cultural celebration.  Focal person of Pokhara Access Mr. Mukesh Kumar Adhikari, Access Instructors Upendra Prasad Poudel, Prakash Chandra Giri, Manju Kumari Thapa, Sarmila Poudel and all the Access students were present in the program. The focal person Mukesh Kumar Adhikari briefed the students about religious and cultural aspects of Holi.  He put ‘Tika’ on everyone and started to play Holi by throwing colors.

After the celebration of Holi festival, one of the participants Israt Khatun quoted, “We learned why and how Holi festival is celebrated!” another student Surya Prasad Parajuli said,” Cultural exchange and cultural celebration create real harmony among people.”

Christmas at Access

Access Center Pokhara celebrated Christmas on December 25, 2017, in the premises of Talbarahi Secondary School, Baidam The festival of Christmas was celebrated to build the knowledge of important of Christmas to Access students and also to commemorate the special festival.  NELTA executives, Access teachers and all students were present in the programme. Access Instructor Prakash Chandra Giri gave a small presentation about the festival and why it is celebrated. NELTA Kaski Sr. Vice Chair Dr. Neupane cut the cake and wished everyone Merry Christmas. Similarly, the Access students and the teachers exchanged best wishes on the occasion of the wonderful festival. Students and teachers exchanged gifts to each other and sang and danced after the cake cutting and gift exchange ceremony. Everyone enjoyed and felt the joy of Christmas. Access Instructor Upendra Prasad Poudel Conducted the celebration programme.

Pokhara Access Inauguration

Inauguration Ceremony of Pokhara Access was held on December 11, 2017, in the premises of Talbarahi Secondary School, Baidam, where the 7th Cohort Access program has been running from November 1. RELO (chief guest Dr. Dennis Yang) and Regional English Language Program Specialist (special guest Mr. Bishwa Raj Gautam) were representatives from U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, Mr. Ashok Sapkota (Treasurer of NELTA Center), Access Co-coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam, NELTA Kaski Chair Meenu Shrestha Kunwar, NELTA Kaski Secretary and focal person of Pokhara Access Mukesh Kumar Adhikari, executive members of NELTA Pokhara, representatives from feeder schools, all the parents and Access Instructor Upendra Prasad Poudel, Sharmila Poudel Pokhrel, Prakash Giri, Manju Thapa were present in the program. NELTA Kaski chair welcomed all the distinguished guests. Then, Chief Guest Mr. Dennis Yang lit up ceremonial Panas and formally inaugurated the Access program. All the Access students and teachers received the enrollment certificate. Mr. Ashok Sapkota (Treasurer of NELTA center) delivered vote of thanks. Then group photos were taken. All enjoyed light refreshments. Parents were delighted with their children’s progress after joining Access Program. The program was conducted by Access Coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam.

 

Spokesperson US Embassy Kathmandu, Andie De Arment Visits Pokhara Access

Spokesperson US Embassy, Nepal Andie De Arment visited Pokhara Access on November 1, 2017, and interacted with Access students and teachers. The program was held under the chairmanship of NELTA Kaski Chair, Meenu Shrestha Kunwar. The program was conducted by NELA Kaski secretary and focal person of Pokhara Access Mukesh Kumar Adhikari. This was the first meeting of Access students with the guest as well as with each other and the teachers. About one hour interaction program was led by our special guest Andie. Students were very attentive to her, as she talked about Access program, how it is being implemented in different countries, US cultural values etc. The students took part actively in the interaction session.
