Lalitpur Access Graduation

Lalitpur Access successfully completed two-year English Access Microscholarship Program and conducted graduation ceremony on August 2, 2019. The formal graduation ceremony was preceded by an Access achievement exhibition where Access students showcased their learnings through posters, photos, materials and artworks. The exhibition was observed by the guardians of the students, guests, teachers and the Chief Guest of the ceremony Public Affairs Chief Paul Thomas of the US Embassy, Kathmandu. After observing the exhibition, all gathered for the formal ceremony. NELTA President Motikala Subba Dewan welcomed everyone with her remarks, distinguished guest Mayor of Godawari Municipality Mr. Gajendra Maharjan also gave his remarks sharing about his connection with NELTA and Access program. In his remarks as the Chief Guest, PAO Mr. Paul Thomas shared his happiness in witnessing the impact of Access, he congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to be an active Access alumni and a leader in future. Vote of thanks was given by Access Focal and National Director of NELTA Mr. Hemanta Raj Dahal. At the end of the program, all students and teachers were awarded with their Access graduation certificate by Chief Guest PAO Paul Thomas.

 

Lalitpur Access in Picnic

Lalitpur Access Center organized picnic on 8 June 2019, Saturday at Godawari, Lalitpur. 38 students along with their instructors, Lalitpur Access focal person Gokul Ghimire Sharma, the Secretary of NELTA, Bharat Khanal and NELTA Lalitpur executives were also present in the program. Similarly, the presence of the headmaster of Navajyoti Secondary School, Harihar Lamichhane and one of the English teachers of the same school, Guru Saran Yadav also added additional support and motivation for the program.

The students were excited to reach the destination. All the students kept singing songs in the bus till they reached the spot. After entering to the picnic spot of Godawari, they all were served breakfast. The next event was dancing program and playing football, which all students looked forward to. Most of the students danced on the floor with great energy. Even the focal person and instructors could not resist the luring temptation of the dance. After the dance, all the students headed for the lunch. The most interesting activity of the picnic was ‘balloon blasting game’ where the students were supposed to tie a balloon on their leg, save the balloon of their own and had to blast those of others. Each group consisted of 5 students and the student who could save his/her balloon without letting the others blast would be the winner. It was a really exciting game and not only the students, but also the instructors along with the focal person involved and enjoyed this activity. Along with this, the students enjoyed another activity named ‘Achammako Poko’. For this activity, the students had to show their individual talents of their respective part which included acting, singing, dancing, caricature, etc. Finally, it was the time to leave the spot at around 5 pm after having lunch and dancing for a long time. The bus entered the Access Center, Lalitpur at about 6 pm. Everyone had a big smile on their faces which would signify that they had a great fun. Overall, the picnic program was full of fun, refreshing beyond the expectation.

Access Lalitpur Celebrates Mother’s Day

On May 4, 2019, Lalitpur Access Center celebrated Mother’s Day. The celebration started with a short meditation with music where the students reflected on their mother’s contribution in their life closing their eyes.  After they opened their eyes, each student expressed their feelings about their mothers. Some of the students shared their mother’s hardships to nurture them. Similarly, some of them shared values and manners taught by their mothers. Moreover, some shared the importance of guidance, support and care provided by their mothers. Along with this, the students wrote poems, essays, haiku, and articles in pair. They also drew pictures dedicated to their mothers and presented with their friends.  While reflecting and sharing about their mothers, they seemed emotional as well. They also expressed their gratitude to their instructors for providing an ample opportunity to realize the importance of mother in their life.

Reader’s Club Program at Lalitpur Access

Lalitpur Access Center conducted its fourth book club activity on April 27, 2019 at its center in the presence of Lalitpur Access focal person Mr. Gokul Sharma and NELTA Lalitpur Secretary Mr. Sanjaya Timalsina. The hour-long event that started at 7.30 am was divided into two phases. In the first phase, students presented 2 power points. The second phase of the event was book review through poster presentations. In total, 11 poster presentations were displayed in the hall for students to visit and inquire on the book.  A few students presented their book review individually, some in pairs and others in groups of three or four. During the closing ceremony of the first phase, Mr. Gokul Sharma reiterated the importance of Access Program and encouraged students to keep developing and improving their language skills and to continue striving for perfection. Similarly, Mr. Sanjaya Timalsina also motivated students by sharing his experience of learning on ITAFEL conference. On the occasion, he acknowledged the tremendous improvement displayed by some students like Santosh Shah, Nikita Maharjan and Sarita Nepali.

Olga Rotko Visits Lalitpur Access

Lalitpur Access Center was visited by Olga Rotko, Assistant Professor and interdisciplinary projects and academic mobility coordinator at Southern Federal University (Rostov-on-Don, Russia on January 21, 2019. She was so excited to visit Access students. At first, Ms. Rotko asked students to find out Russia and Nepal in world map. She showed videos of her Access students and other Access instructors which was a message to our Access students.  She shared about Russian culture, history and cities. She also showed New Year celebration videos of her Access center. Access students were so excited and they were surprised to see the cities of Russia. Access students also shared in videos about their famous job, culture, food to Ms. Rotko which she said she will show to her students back home. Students asked many queries to Ms. Rotko about her life and life in general in Russia and more about Access in Russia.

Lalitpur Access Visits Manavsewa Ashram for Community Service

Access Center Lalitpur team with NELTA organized the third community service program on January 19, 2019; Access team visited a community managed shelter ‘Manavsewa Ashram’ located at Hattiban, Lalitpur. Access students, teachers and NELTA Lalitpur executives received a warm welcome at the Ashram. Students were curious to see what the Manavsewa Ashram looks like and what does it do. They were surprised to see more than 70 people living in the shelter, students interacted with some of the rescued people, their sad stories brought tears to their eyes. After observing the shelter and interacting with some rescued people, a short formal program was held. In which, Kunjarmani Gautam, Coordinator of English Access Microscholarship Program, Gokul Ghimire Sharma, Lalitpur Access Focal Person and Sanjaya Timalsina , secretary of NELTA Lalitpur, presented their views on individual’s responsibility towards society and they praised the works of Manavsewa Ashram in serving the people in need. At the end of the program, NELTA Lalitpur along with Access team handed over some essential materials such as a gas cylinder, a heater, and two small size thermos to the shelter.

Marking Day of Elimination of Violence against Women

Lalitpur Access Center marked the Day of Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, 2018 at the feeder school Nava Jyoti Secondary School in the presence of focal person. Access students Bimala Timalsina and Nikita Maharjan hosted the program. At first, students sang song, did power point presentation and poster presentation on violence against women. Then, students also performed a short drama on the same theme. Lastly Lalitpur Access focal Person Mr. Gokul Ghimire talked about the topic and encouraged students to respect women in their families, communities and speak up against violence against women.

Lalitpur Access Plants Trees as Part of Community Service

Lalitpur Access Center conducted its second community service program in collaboration with Lions Club, LC Kathmandu Valley Centennial and under the guidance of NELTA, Lalitpur July 21, 2018. The chief guest of the program was Mr. Ananta Bhetwal, AMJF, Second Century Ambassador, District Governor; Ms. Motikala Subba Dewan, President, NELTA; Access Coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam, Godawari Municipality Ward Member Mr. Bhaskar Thapa, and other distinguished guests were present in the program. In the first phase of the program, Access students learned about the importance of planting trees and keeping our environment clean from the speeches delivered by the distinguished guests. During the inauguration, the chief guests, guests and Access students planted four trees in the Access center premise. In the second phase, the students and guests moved to Bajra Nagar Uddhyan, Jharuwarasi, for further tree plantation and planted one hundred trees in total.

In the first phase, students presented eleven book reviews. A few students presented their book review individually, some in pairs and others in groups of three or four. During the closing ceremony of the first phase, Focal Person Mr. Gokul Sharma reiterated the importance of Access Program and encouraged students to keep developing and improving their language skills and to continue striving for perfection. On the occasion, he acknowledged the tremendous improvement displayed by some students like Santosh Sah and Apekshya Pahari. The second phase of the event was book review through poster presentations. A total of seven poster presentations were displayed in the hall for students to visit and inquire on the book. “Now that I have done a poster presentation for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I can do any kind of book reviews,” Ram Tamang shared with confidence as he was putting up his poster.

Earth Day Celebration

Lalitpur Access Center celebrated World Earth day 2018 in the feeder school Nava Jyoti Secondary School on April 22, 2018. At first, students watched the video about history of earth day celebration and. Then, students of group A performed a drama on ‘Stop Pollution’, all enjoyed the drama.

STEM Field Orientation for Girls at Lalitpur Access

On March 10, 2018, orientation on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields was conducted at Lalitpur Access especially for the girls. An IVLP alumna, Ms. Irina Sthapit was the facilitator. The session ran for three hours. The focal person Mr. Gokul Sharma (Ghimire) and four Access instructors attended the program along with the studetns. Students made creative robot following the instruction. At first, they were nervous but with their idea in pair they made standing robot which makes colorful pattern in the paper. Access students went through a wonderful journey from the moment of handling the goods of the program to the moment they struggled to make a robot using their own ideas and finally got successful after a number of attempts. They learnt to utilize several goods in many different ways and also learned to approach a problem in many different ways. They said the joy of working together was very satisfying. All 20 Access students of Lalitpur attended the whole session very actively. At the end of the session Access student Apkeshya Pahari said she made the first robot in Lalitpur Access Center, she also shared that she would like to make a robot that can help clean.

Community Service at Lalitpur Access

Lalitpur Access Center cleaned Shree Nava Jyoti School premises on Saturday, December 23, 2017. With a belief that “Change must begin with us”, it was decided to clean the Access Center area, as part of the very first community service program. The program began at 9:55 AM with a briefing from Lalitpur Access Focal Person Mr. Gokul Sharma Ghimire. He addressed the Access students on the significance of why we are starting community service from our “Home”. He reiterated the importance of hygiene and cleanliness at all times and at all places. The Access Instructors, Sumitra Ghimire, Hira Lal Moktan, Nim Lal Bhandari and Samjhana Rai, each led a team of 10 Access students for the cleanup activity. Everybody was given a pair of disposable gloves and a mask. Each team was provided with cleaning materials. Thus, began our community service program. Jharuwarashi Ward Chief Mr. Bhaskar Thapa also graced us with his presence while the clean-up activity was going on. He commended the Center’s effort in conducting such activity along with the Access student’s sincere and active participation. The students took a lot of initiative and interest in cleaning up the area and the difference was clearly visible within an hour’s time.

Lalitpur Access Inauguration

On Monday, November 6, 2017 English Access Microscholarship Program, Lalitpur, 7th Cohort, was inaugurated at a program in Jharuwarasi Fulbari Restaurant, Lalitpur.
The event was presided by Chief Guest Mr. Nolen Johnson, Public Diplomacy Desk Officer, US Department of State. The event was also graced by the presence of Godavari Municipality Mayor Gajendra Maharjan, RELO Mr. Dennis Yang, RELO Program specialist Mr. Bishwa Raj Gautam, Godavari Municipality Deputy Mayor Mrs. Muna Adhikari Kunwar, NELTA General Secretary Mr. Ishwari Adhikari, Access Coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam, Access Assistant Coordinator Ms. Prathana Basukala, School Principals, English Teachers and NELTA Lalitpur Executive Committee Members.
Chief Guest Mr. Johnson addressed the audience where he acknowledged the students and the importance of support from parents to make this program successful. Mayor Gajendra Maharjan also spoke at the event where he stressed on the importance of learning English and emphasized to all the scholarship winners to make full use of the opportunity they have been awarded. All Access students as well as Access instructors were presented with Commencement Certificate in the program.
