A Visit to an Orphanage

Dang Access students and teachers visited an orphanage that lies seven kilometers away in the village of Parsa, on June 23, 2018. With the purpose of distributing fruits and serve the orphans in whatever way it was feasible, teachers and students set out in the morning. Most of the distance had to be covered on foot. Students and teachers were warmly given floral reception by Mr. Bholanath Yogi who is also the Principal of Hindu Vidhyapeeth, Dang and the orphanage. He is an erudite Hindu spiritual leader and the founder of the orphanage center where 24 orphan girls and 6 orphan boys ranging between six to twenty years reside under Mr. Yogi’s aegis. The orphans shared their tragic stories with the Access students who also joined the vedic mantra recitation. Everybody overwhelmingly burst into tears when the Access student Jeevan Battarai shared his bitter experience of how he became an orphan and how he is struggling to pursue his dreams. Mr. Yogi gave a welcome speech and thanked the Access students for visiting the orphanage and sharing happiness. Students distributed the fruits to the orphans. Instructors thanked Mr. Yogi and his team for allowing them to visit the orphanage and for giving home to the orphans.

Earth Day Celebrations at Dang Access

On April 22, 2018 Dang Access students both group A and group B along with their instructors celebrated World Earth Day by conducting many activities in Feeder school, Shree Rajhena Secondary School Ghorahi Dang. In the program, Access students, Ms. Anjana Bhattarai and Ms. Shital Acharya presented the digital story about NELTA and Access program through PowerPoint slides. Similarly, Mr. Gajadhar K.C. and Mr. Jeevan Neupane presented the PowerPoint slides on Earth Day and importance of celebrating Earth Day which they had prepared themselves. Students also demonstrated drama on Forest Conservation that they had scripted and performed during Access camp. And finally, they took part in watering, weeding and putting compost manure in the plants which were planted in the feeder schools’ premises. The program was conducted by Access students Ms. Susmita Chaudhary and Mr. Sushil Kumar Baniya. There was presence of School principal, other teachers, students and guardians. They were happy to see Access students’ talents and skills.

Dang Access Marks Veterans’ Day

Dang Access organized a program on the occasion of Veterans’ Day on November 11, 2017. All forty students were gathered in Access center. First of all, students were divided into groups with specific tasks. Three groups were given the task to search about the facts of Veterans’ day celebration on internet and prepare PowerPoint slides or speech. Some students chose to write poems on veterans. Instructor Shyama Khanal finalized best slide prepared by students on power point for presentation. After half an hour, program was begun formally. Access students Shushil Kumar Baniya and Bebika Pokhrel hosted the program. Sarad B.K, Swostika K.C, Niraj Bhattarai and Anjana Bhattarai gave speech on Veterans’ and they talked about the history of Veterans’ Day and highlighted the fact that veterans are the nation builders. Program was followed by the recitation of poem. Susmita Chaudhary and Swostika K.C, Sabin Belbase and Siddhant Pokhrel, Gajadhar K.C and Abiral Pokhrel recited their poem in pairs. Another part of the program that gave new turning was the PowerPoint presentation of Students. Jeevan Neupane and Chhaya B.K presented their slide on Veterans Day and the importance of celebrating it. Finally students watched a national song with the theme of togetherness. Whole class was moved by the song. Program ended with the concluding speech of instructor Bikash Pandey.

Celebration of American Independence Day

Access Center Dang observed US Independence Day on July 4, 2017 at the Access Center Dang. At first, the students enjoyed a short introductory video about the US independence. After that, Mr. Ramhari Rijal, an Access Instructor showed the map of USA and explained a brief history of it. All the students and teachers interacted and expressed their views and feelings about being free and importance of freedom. Then after, students Anjana Bhattarai and Abiral Pokhrel spoke about the importance of being an independent country. After that, all students and teachers chanted the slogans ‘Long Live the Nation’. Finally the program was concluded by selecting two students Bipana Aale and Manideep Tiwari from group A and two students Manoj Budha Magar and Riya Yogi from group B for writing a reflective article on the topic.

Awareness Program about Election

On June 25, 2017, Access Center Dang organized Community Service Program. As a community service program, Awareness Program about Election was conducted through Rally. All the Access Students, Access Instructors along with Focal Person actively took part in the program. The rally was conducted in Ghorahi area to aware people about the importance of fair and meaningful election along with the proper utilization of right to vote. Students took part in rally with play cards on which the slogans like; “East or West Vote for the Best”, “Let’s Be United for the Nation Building”, “Let’s Utilize the Right to Vote”, Let’s Avoid Nepotism and Elect the Best Ones” etc. were highlighted. Local people took interest in the rally and talked to the students about election. A few journalists interviewed the students and captured the photographs as well.

Celebration of Memorial Day of America and Republic Day of Nepal

Dang Access Center organized a Program on the occasion of the US Memorial Day and Nepal’s Republic Day on 29 May 2017. At first, the students enjoyed a short introductory video about the US Memorial Day. They watched a video on 25 facts about celebrating Memorial Day in America. All the students were showing their serious attention towards the videos and the caption as well. After that, discussion was held within the groups. Students Pointed out so many ideas about the Memorial Day: how and why it is celebrated. They read aloud some captions such as:

On this Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifices of prior generations. We honor the sacrifices of the men and women next door who have served or continue to serve our country. And we pledge never to forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Secondly, students were asked what they know about republic Day of Nepal. They pointed out so many points regarding Republic Day of Nepal. Another video of celebrating Republic Day was shown in which President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the special programme organized at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel on the occasion of the Republic Day. Finally, Students participated in class discussion that how monarchy was abolished and federal system of government was established in Nepal. Instructor Mr. Ramhari Rijal and Shyama Khanal facilitated the program.

Dang Access Visits Home for Elderly

Access Center Dang organized Elderly Home visiting program on December 30, 2016. All the students along with their instructors and focal person visited elderly home at Ghorahi -1, Jhingaura, Dang.  Students talked individually with the elderly, listened to their bitter sweet experiences. Students observed the rooms where the elderly people live, they learned about the facilities in the elderly home. At last students distributed the fruits to the elderly people and bid farewell.

Dang Access Inauguration

On November 13, 2016, Dang Access Center has been inaugurated in the program organized at Bhingreli Village Resort, Ghorahi, Dang. The Chief Guest in the program was Her Excellency US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B. Teplitz. Local Development Officer, Mr. Kul Bahadur GC and District Education Officer Mr. Ramesh Prasad Mainali were the special guests in the program. In the program, NELTA Dang Chair Mr. Chet Lal Chaudhary welcomed the guest. In his short remark, DEO Mr. Ramesh Prasad Mainali expressed his happiness in becoming a part of Access inauguration, highlighting the unique features of Access program, he said that this program will definitely help to improve the English language proficiency of community school students. LDO Mr. Kul Bahadur GC thanked NELTA and US Embassy for bringing Access program in Dang and expressed his commitment in supporting its efforts in improving the educational quality of community school students. Addressing the ceremony, Chief Guest Her Excellency US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B. Teplitz congratulated the students, she encouraged them to take maximum benefit of the Access resources, become a better person and make their parents and their country proud one day with their own achievements. NELTA Senior Vice President Ms. Motikala Subba Dewan thanked US Embassy for entrusting NELTA with the implementation of Access program in Nepal and she also thanked the NELTA Dang team for their continued efforts in running the Access program. In the program, students and teachers received Access commencement certificates from the Chief Guest. The program was conducted by Access Coordinator Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam.
