Program Design

Access Program has mainly three components:

1) After School Instruction:

Each Access Student must receive a minimum of 360 instruction hours in two-year program. It means that each academic year should have minimum 180 instruction hours. Each class must be 60-minute hours and the length of the class may very from one institution to another institution.

2) Enhancement Activities:

1) U.S. Culture and Values

Access program will encourage students to develop respect for and interest in other cultures, customs and beliefs. This program will familiarize students with important features of U.S. culture and values. Cultural and festival celebrations and observation of international/U.S. days/national days can be run under this activity.

2) Personal Development

Access program fosters students’ personal development by enhancing their intellectual and emotional capabilities to better prepare them for future academic and professional endeavors. The program helps for the career development of the access students and motivate them to pursue their higher education. A minimum of two personal development activities are required during the program.

3) Service Learning / Community Service:

As a volunteer activity, students involve in community service in order to be aware on issues of their respective communities. By knowing the issues and problems, they can contribute for to their community and society. Volunteering to teach younger children, helping elders with shopping, collecting book donations for a community library, or putting on a play/drama about protecting the environment, awareness program, cleanliness program etc. are some example of community service.

4) Computer / Technology Skills:

Computer or technology instruction is prominent part of Access Program. The students should know about computer skills such as typing, word-processing, and emailing, along with information about media literacy and social media safety. Computer and technology skills help them to build their future.
3) Intensive Sessions:

Intensive sessions/camps are significant opportunities to practice English language skills, build teams, and gain confidence. Through intensive session or a camp, the students enjoy the opportunities to take learning outside of the school room. The strong memories of access programs will be made and friendships will be cultivated by intensive sessions.
